Preserving carriage returns in item descriptions when transitioning from a legacy system to NetSuite can be tricky. Below are the steps I use to accomplish this.
- Export the data to a CSV from the legacy system with a special character like the pipe or a tilde indicating carriage returns
- Do any data scrubbing / alterations that need to be done in preparation for import
- Do a find and replace for the special character. You will want to replace the special character with Ctrl+J
- Import to NetSuite
Note: that it is important to do the find and replace in step three as the last data transformation. Doing more transformations after may risk losing the carriage returns.
