For years, we have helped clients discover, implement, and use this solution, and over these years have answered a lot of questions from our clients (and anyone else looking for answers).

Our Most Frequently-Asked NetSuite User Questions

As one of the biggest and best VARs in the country—and one who has helped dozens of clients orphaned by other VARs and the company’s direct sales team—MIBAR knows the ins and outs of this solution and has developed a healthy repository of articles and tutorials on how to use this solution. Using Google, we have compiled a list of our top NetSuite FAQs and tutorials from 2019 below.

1.     Creating a Save Search in NetSuite for Transactions with Related Records

NetSuite has many standard reports that you can create. However, there are times when one report doesn’t give you everything you may need. That’s where saved searches can help you get the information. When this happens, you can create a saved search to make your life easier.

2.     Avoid This Common NetSuite Mistake When Building a Transaction Saved Search

Are you left asking “Why do I keep getting results for transactions that do not meet my criteria on a saved search?” It’s common, and whenever you’re building a saved search, you may overlook one small detail that leaves you scratching your head as to why it’s not generating what you want to see.

3.     How to use Summary Functions in Saved Search Without Using SUMMARY TYPE in Saved Search

While creating saved search, sometimes it may not be feasible to do GROUP or SUMMARY functions but we can still create summary values and show them as columns. In this article, we explore how to create an item-based save search to know if a selected bin has enough OnHandQty and if there is, the associated item(s), the binQty linked to the item(s), and the cumulative BinOnHand qty across all linked items.

4.     6 Tips for NetSuite Advanced PDF Templates

NetSuite Advanced PDF Templates are a great way to turn out- of-the-box invoices or checks into a custom designed document tailored to your business. Though powerful, it’s often quite complicated to figure out how to discover a field name or see if an area of the template was working properly. In this article, we explore our top tips for using this, from something like ‘save frequently’ to something like finding the internal name for a field using the Schema browser.

5.     Creating Filtered Dropdown Lists in a Custom Field in NetSuite

The use of filtered dropdown lists can be extremely useful in a host of different record types, but this tutorial explores how to work with a custom transaction body field on the Sales Order to select the correct Contact for the Customer. By following these instructions, you will have created a filtered list which only shows the contacts instead of a list of all contacts in our NetSuite instance.

6.     Dynamically Print Items on a NetSuite Sales Order Using Advanced PDF Templates

NetSuite uses the popular Java reporting tool produced by Big Faceless Organization (BFO) to produce crisp documents that can be easily printed, emailed and sent in a PDF format. Using the built-in Advanced PDF Templates, you can create robust looking documents tailored to your business needs—without making costly advanced customizations.

With a bit of HTML knowledge and understanding of a BFO report generator called FreeMarker, you can easily do something like including items on sales orders without displaying it for the customer, including a gift with purchase without showing it, or displaying details of a kit.

7.     How to Create an ‘After Field Edit’ Trigger on NetSuite Workflow Actions

Calculating commissions is tough—especially when you need to track commissions for doing part of the work. In this use case, we’ll help you use NetSuite Workflow to create an After Field Edit triggered action to calculate a commission value for a sales rep based on the sales rep’s participation percentage in a deal.

8.     Reconciling NetSuite Purchase Order Variances with Post Vendor Bill Variance

NetSuite Purchase Order delivers functionality that simplifies the purchasing and receiving process for greater accuracy. Purchase order items can be received into a warehouse directly or through an inspection warehouse, but how do you handle differences attributable to quantity, pricing and exchange rate differences?

In this, we explore a common challenge you face—receiving an item for a lesser or greater quantity and at a different price than what you initially ordered—and discuss how to address this.

9.     How to make sure an After Submit User Event Script only runs when a certain field changes

Another common challenge occurs when you are trying to roll down the default address from a customer record to all associated contacts when the default address was changed or edited.

Naturally, you may think you could run the script as a field changed event, but quickly realize that if changes were made but the user didn’t submit them, you wouldn’t want those changes rolled down. With a simple added function, you can easily compare the old record’s field value with the new record’s in your new After Submit script.

10.  NetSuite Customer Center vs My Account vs Premium Customer Center vs Advanced Customer Center

The NetSuite Customer Center is a time saving and productive tool for any company. It provides an easy way to open support tickets, view recently ordered products, quotes, and open balances. Further, this allows customers to make payments, place orders, print statements, and edit account details. In this blog, we explore how to enable the customer center, customize it, and then compare this with the my account functionality, the premium customer center, and the advanced customer center.
