Born in Africa, when I was growing up, I did not have, PC at home, no cell phone, no Xbox, no smartphone. To be informed we washed TV, listen to radio, but the family and the community were our main source of information.

We were raised by the entire community. Child was the affaire of everyone. The community was the eyes of parents. For that reason, we were behaving well to honor our parents , so that in the community dad and mom will be respected .

Technology has transformed the way parents interact with their children.

Parenting in this age of social media and Digital devises is not easy.

First of all in this age of technology kids are matured at very early age at the point that they do not fully live their childhood because the influence of technology allows them to know and do things that were for adults. No more taboo. For that reason children are led very young to experience sex, alcohol, therefor become very disrespectfully. At 10 we have no knowledge of girl friend and boy friend, today kid talk about that. At our time it was easy to meet a girl or boy who is virgin at 25 or 30. Nowadays we have more and more young mothers .

When we were young, we had real toys to play with. Our yesterday toys are not todays youths desire.  At 5, they know how to use every digital devices in the house. At very young age kids are receiving for gift phones and laptops allow them to have easy access to social media, with generally free access to anything. Most of the time, the kids know the use of technology more than the parent.

In this age of technology, kids have their childhood stolen making parental very harder and harder destroying family communication. Kids and parents are also using technology as way to communication while they are under the same house

Parental need to be reinvented to adapt the rapid changes we are facing. Parenting, 10 to 20 years ago, is not the same as today parenting.
