Continuing with our Meet MIBAR series, I’d like to introduce you Sebastian Pearson, an experienced NetSuite consultant who joined our team over the past year and has been doing some excellent work! Prior to MIBAR, Sebastian graduated from LIU with a Master of Science (MS) in Management Information Systems (MIS) and has had experience working on both the client side as a purchasing and inventory manager, as well as the vendor side as a system application analyst. As impressive as his professional credentials are, I think that you’ll find his personal life to be equally as interesting, so I’ve decided to interview Sebastian, so that you can learn a little bit more about him.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Queens, NY. Most of my life I’ve lived in Queens and moved to various neighborhoods in the area between Jamaica & Flushing.
How long have you been working in the technology industry?
This is my second year in technology. Before this I was in the Supply Chain industry for 18 years.
How old were you when you first knew you wanted to work in technology?
I first knew that I wanted to work in the technology when I was 21 years old. I had the opportunity to work on a software implementation project while working as a Purchaser of MRO materials. As a super user of the legacy software, I was fully aware of the shortcomings that needed to be improved upon. I was impressed with the incoming software and took to it immediately. I was particularly impressed with how it facilitated my role as purchaser like no other software at the time. The lead consultant on the project said I should think about a career in software implementation and user training because I took to the software so quickly.
Periodically since then, though my primary function was Purchasing, I got to take part in multiple implementation projects. Eventually I decided to get a Master’s in Information Systems. Once I graduated I got my first job in technology.
What is your favorite thing about your job (or working in technology, in general)?
My favorite thing about my job is helping businesses perform at their best. I enjoy seeing a positive impact on performance after a software implementation. To me, creating solutions for business is very rewarding.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
That the keys to a successful implementation are the three C’s. They are Communication, Coordination, and Clean data.
Who was your hero when you were growing up?
Having grown up in church, I would say Jesus Christ is my hero. Along with him are countless others who have inspired me to be better, work harder, and stay focused. These include family, friends, mentors, and even some clients whose vision and perseverance made them successful business owners.
Do you have a favorite quote?
I Corinthians 13:13 – “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
Are you reading anything right now? If so, what?
Right now, I am reading A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms by George R. R. Martin
Do you have a favorite book/music album?
In books, I tend to gravitate to fantasy and post-apocalyptic genres. My favorites are Justin Cronin’s The Twelve series, George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series, Terry Brooks’ Shannara series, and Dan Brown’s books.
In music I am very eclectic. Hip Hop, Pop, Reggae, Bossanova and Chill Step are some of my favorite genres
What’s your favorite movie?
Scenes tend to make an impression on me more than whole movies. I still get goosebumps when watching Al Pacino give his “Game of Inches” speech in Any Given Sunday. Or when he and Robert De Niro met over coffee in Heat.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Playing video games with the kids, watching my son play soccer, and golf.
